Units Of Length

To measure length correctly we use fixed fixed measures which are centimeters (cm) for smaller lengths and meters (m) for bigger lengths.

Centimeters and meters are standard units of length.

Centimeter:

Centimeter is a smaller unit of length. A ruler is used to measure small length.  A ruler has centimeter marks on one side. The ruler is 15 cm long..

The length of eraser is about 2 cm long.

The length of a finger is about 6 cm.

Meter:

Meter is a bigger measure of length. An measuring tape is used to measure meters.

The length of door is about 2 m long.

The length of a cricket bat is 1 m long

Measuring Using ruler or measuring tape:

We use ruler to measure small objects and measuring tape to measure long objects. We should start measuring from the "0" mark.
